Discover the Named Derby: Stormers vs Sharks and the November Availability Map

Sharks
The teamsheets are out, and the coastal derby is no longer a rumour about Springbok trials. John Dobson has named 11 Springboks in the Stormers match-day 23. JP Pietersen has answered by starting Ox Nché, Eben Etzebeth and Ethan Hooker, with André Esterhuizen captaining the Sharks.

Saturday at Cape Town Stadium is still a URC game. It is also the clearest public look at the bodies who will be asked to fix Perth before South Africa reassemble at the end of October.

Scout the named XVs, then keep the Test prices separate.

The Teams That Matter

Stormers: 15 Damian Willemse, 14 Seabelo Senatla, 13 Ruhan Nel (captain), 12 Jonathan Roche, 11 Leolin Zas, 10 Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, 9 Cobus Reinach, 8 Hacjivah Dayimani, 7 Siya Kolisi, 6 Paul de Villiers, 5 JD Schickerling, 4 Adré Smith, 3 Wilco Louw, 2 André-Hugo Venter, 1 Ntuthuko Mchunu.
Bench: Deon Fourie, Vernon Matongo, Neethling Fouché, Riley Norton, Connor Evans, Evan Roos, Haashim Pead, Wandisile Simelane.

Sharks: 15 Zekhethelo Siyaya, 14 Edwill van der Merwe, 13 Jurenzo Julius, 12 André Esterhuizen (captain), 11 Ethan Hooker, 10 Vusi Moyo, 9 Jaden Hendrikse, 8 Phepsi Buthelezi, 7 Manu Tshituka, 6 Matt Romao, 5 Darrien Landsberg, 4 Eben Etzebeth, 3 Thomas du Toit, 2 Eduan Swart, 1 Ox Nché.

Kolisi is back in a Stormers jersey. Willemse and Feinberg-Mngomezulu start together. Reinach is at scrumhalf. De Villiers, who said the group wants to go all in for the Nations Championship after Perth, starts on the flank. Etzebeth and Nché, managed off the bench last week, now start.

That is an audition, not a selection.

The Kolbe Fact

Cheslin Kolbe is not in either squad. A month after breaking his jaw in Soweto, he has said he is halfway to being able to chew a steak again. That is an encouraging recovery note. It is not a Turin selection.

Until he is in full training, do not price him as the November kicking or back-three solution. Handré Pollard covered the tee in Perth and has said he is staying. Willemse’s return at fullback is the live alternative on the park this weekend. Neither fact locks a 15 shirt for 7 November.

What Saturday Can Actually Tell You

The pack that lost the first hour in Perth
Nché, du Toit and Louw are the scrum names worth watching. Perth’s new front row was part of a slow opening. If the experienced props look rusty, November margins should stay modest. If they look like the series pack, the Italy win lean gets cleaner. It still does not become a 25-point bet.

The captaincy overlap
Esterhuizen led South Africa in Perth and captains the Sharks again. Kolisi, the long-term Springboks captain, starts for the Stormers. One club game will not decide the tour armband. It will show who is moving and who is being trusted with a full start.

The 10-12 question
Feinberg-Mngomezulu gets another tempo look beside Reinach. Esterhuizen gets another midfield start without Damian de Allende. Pollard is not in this match. A sharp Sacha half does not end the flyhalf debate. A messy one does not hand Turin to Pollard by default.

Hooker and Hooker
Ethan Hooker is back on the wing after starting the All Blacks Tests and Perth. His minutes are a fitness note, not a form referendum.

How to Use the Result

Write the score down. Do not trade it.

A Stormers win does not make South Africa shorter for Paris. A Sharks win does not make Ireland a lay. The notes that travel are smaller:
  • Who wins the first two scrums?
  • Who misses the tackles they were making in Soweto?
  • Who comes off early because the club is protecting a November body?
  • Who looks underdone after the break?
The Springboks play Italy in Turin on 7 November, France in Paris on 13 November and Ireland in Dublin on 21 November. Finals weekend is at Twickenham from 27 to 29 November. South Africa are still top of the southern pool on 15 points from the July wins. Perth did not count.

The Three Markets This Feeds

Italy
A selection test. A strong pack showing supports a win lean. A revenge margin is still the trap, because the XV is not named and Italy are at home.

France
The price-setting match. Emmanuel Meafou is expected to miss the window. That only helps if the tight five who start in Europe look like Cape Town and Soweto, not like the side that trailed 42-17 in Perth.

Ireland
The fatigue match, eight days after Paris. South Africa won 24-13 in Dublin in 2025 and 13-8 in the 2023 quarter-final. Both were decided late. A heavy derby does not change the short turnaround.

Risk Management Before Kick-off

  • Do not move a November price because of a URC scoreline.
  • Do not assume Kolbe for the tour.
  • Do not treat Kolisi’s club start as a captaincy announcement.
  • Keep Italy, France and Ireland on separate tickets.
  • Reassemble date is the end of October. The Test XV is still a guess.
Erasmus has already said Perth was on the Springboks. This weekend is the first named look at whether the players who can fix it are ready to play 60 minutes, not whether Cape Town or Durban wins a derby.

Outlook

Saturday should be physical, familiar and full of players who want a November shirt. Use it as an availability map. Etzebeth and Nché starting is a fitness tell. Kolbe’s halfway update is a timeline tell. Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Esterhuizen are audition notes. None of them are a Stade de France price.

Scout the collisions. Leave the Championship ticket alone until the squad exists.
